We all disagree with people. The key to living peacefully and maintaining a close-knit community around you is knowing how to empathize, listen well, and disagree respectfully. And with most divisive topics, there is a way to find some empathy or understanding. But from time to time, we all come across some point of view or doctrine that we just don’t understand and can find no sympathy for. Below, we’ll explore 20 different attitudes from various areas of life that many people simply have no understanding or empathy for.
1. Being smug about not understanding a topic

One user shared, “I can’t deal with people being smug because they don’t understand something.”
Another user replied: “Once I had a late barbeque with my neighbor. I saw a satellite walk by with their 9 year old daughter. At some point, the satellite simply disappeared in the middle of the sky because it reached the shadow of the earth and could no longer reflect the sun.
“So the little girl asked me, ‘Did he die?’ Why did he disappear?’ I then proceeded to explain it to her, but she couldn’t really understand. So I said,’let me get a piece of paper and draw to show you.’
“Her mom immediately intervened, angry. ‘NO, we’re having fun. We are not here to learn!’ It’s still one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.”
2. Influencers who exploit their children

“Social media influencers taking advantage of their kids fighting,” shared one user.
Another user responded: “This YouTube mom who gave birth to her child posed sad while actually crying because his dog died. He kept saying, “No, Mom, I’m really crying,” and she said, “I know.” She posted her video by mistake, forgetting to cut that part. It serves her right. It’s garbage.
“EDIT: It looks like the dog didn’t die (thankfully.) BUT it’s still trash because the dog was very sick and the kid was clearly emotional about it so he took advantage of it instead of giving him real comfort.”
3. Saying you’re blunt to be rude

One user posted, “Saying you’re raw but you’re actually just an open a-hole.”
Another user shared, “A server we all hated once said, ‘They don’t want to deal with a bad b— like me.'” A fellow cook yelled through the window, “No, you’re just a b—. Stop making excuses.” .
4. “Prank” YouTube channels.

One user said: “YouTube ‘prank’ channels.” The ones that bully McDonald’s employees for opinions.”
5. When people don’t consider evidence

“When someone adamantly refuses to believe something even after you’ve provided them with ample evidence from multiple credible sources to prove what you just told them,” one user commented. One user shared, “It’s easier to fool a man than to convince a man he’s been fooled.”
6. Dogfighting

One Redditor commented, “Dogfights.”
One user added: “I hate it when I’m enjoying my day and like 30 people next to me start a dogfight over me.”
7. Well, That’s who I am

One user posted: “So this is me.” Excuses. You can change some aspects of yourself to become better.”
8. Bad people who get offended when someone puts up with them

“When people are mean, you’re mean too and they don’t understand why,” one user posted.
Another user responded: “One of my exes enjoyed being mean to me because of how I would react. When I finally reached my limits and came right back at him with truths about what a [horrible person] it was for me and several others, he yelled at a mutual friend that I was bullying him.”
9. Flat earths

One commenter added, “Flat grounders. You’re all dumb.”
One user posted, “Especially those who complain about people they think are dumb. But they’re dumb.”
10. Being smug about not liking something you’ve never tried

One user stated: “People who don’t like something they’ve never tried and make it a personality trait.
“Edit: I talk about mundane things to have such a strong attitude and pride that I don’t like it despite never trying. Like a TV show or camping. Obviously not murder, I didn’t think I needed to arrest it.”
11. People who abuse big words

“People who misuse big words. Is anyone else photosynthesizing with me?’ one user reported.
Another user replied: “Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder.”
12. Being intolerant of other cultures

One user stated: “There are only two things I can’t stand in this world: People who can’t stand other people’s culture and the Dutch.”
13. People who blame the victims

“People who blame the victims for their own abuse. It’s abuse for a reason. It is not easy for someone who has been badly manipulated and hurt to let go of that person. It is not always financially feasible for them to leave either.
“Yes, I feel terrible if children are involved. I just hate to see people hurt and mistreated in any way. But I just want to clarify that I know this world is so cruel and judgmental. I also understand that some say they want others to let these people go, but they don’t help them after that,” said one user.
14. Saying “It’s Just the Way It Is”

A Redditor posted, “It’s just the way it is,” is a phrase I hate. There is never an explanation or a solution.”
15. Be rude to retail workers

“Being rude to retail workers for little to no reason. Like bro, some of these people make barely above minimum wage. What will your yelling and verbal attacks do to help you and them? Plus, anyone is much more likely to help a kind person than someone who yells at them for no reason,” one user shared.
16. People who make excuses for not taking care of their children

One user shared, “People making excuses for not taking good care of their kids. I hand washed my kid’s clothes in the tub and walked to work when I was a single, poor mother. Not to mention the resources available nowadays that also help. There really is no excuse.”
17. People Who Spend Their Life Savings on Social Media Celebrities

One Redditor shared, “People are trying to give their savings to big streamers/YouTubers…etc.
“They literally donate their savings to multi-millionaires just to get an ‘oh thank you’ and then be forgotten about a minute later.”
18. The idea that some full-time jobs aren’t worth a paycheck

One commenter added in the thread, “That some full-time jobs don’t deserve a living wage.”
19. People who don’t believe in free school meals

“People who don’t believe in free school meals. There is no good person who thinks children should go hungry,” one Redditor posted.
20. Pick yourself up by your boots

One Redditor stated, “People just waiting to say, ‘Pull yourself up by your bootstraps.’ Also, the rich beg average earners to donate to their charity so they can earn 80% in “administrative fees”.
