Thanks to technological advances, more jobs can be done from home than ever before. Among telecommuters and freelancers, about 27.6 million Americans (17.9 percent of the U.S. workforce) work from home at least some of the time, based on 2021 U.S. Census Bureau data. Additionally, some of the positions are quite lucrative, well exceeding the $60,000 per year mark.
Jobs that can be done from home—Earn over $60K
If you want to join the ranks of the home-based workforce, you must first understand that not every skill or profession will help you get there. You won’t be able to do that if all you do is fill out surveys. this is simply not realistic.
Some of the highest paying work from home jobs are in the technology field. Many IT professionals do not need to interact directly with customers and can communicate with their colleagues online. Additionally, connecting to systems remotely is quite simple with the right tools.
Many of these technology roles require a substantial amount of knowledge and experience. Additionally, most will consider a four-year degree (or more) necessary. However, if you already work as a software developer, business intelligence analyst, help desk/tech support, or something similar, transitioning to a work-at-home job may not be too difficult. And, when you do, it’s quite reasonable to get a salary of over $60,000 a year.
WFH Jobs—Accountants, bookkeepers and social media managers
Bookkeepers and accountants can also do quite well in work-from-home arrangements. While you’ll need some training and credentials, as well as the right software to get started, it’s possible to earn a solid salary. In the US, work-from-home CPAs make an average of nearly $64,000 per year.
If you are social media savvy, becoming a social media manager could also help you secure an annual salary of $60,000+. Some freelance writers can also pull in at least $60k each year, though this depends on your skill level and if you specialize in a particularly lucrative niche. Some transcribers and translators can also each of this salary.
However, some options do not require as much experience. Some people make over $20 per hour teaching English as a second language even without a teaching degree. If you manage to secure a full-time program and qualify for additional incentives or bonuses, it’s possible to hit the $60,000 mark. If you have skills in one area, you may be able to teach in other areas online, giving you a different path to follow.
Tips for getting a great work from home job
As with any task, you want to proceed with caution. Searching for work from home jobs on Google will get you some decent results, but there will also be some scams in the mix, so you have to be diligent.
If you want to be a remote employee for a company, then accessing sites like Indeed can help you find positions with reputable employers. Just be sure to focus your search on your occupation and filter it to only show remote jobs.
For those who prefer to make $60,000 a year as a freelancer, starting on a freelance job site could be a smart move. Upwork, Toptal, Freelancer, Guru and Fiverr all have strong reputations and can help you connect with businesses and people looking for people with a wide range of skills. Just keep in mind, it can take time to build your freelance reputation, so unless you already have a strong portfolio of work, it might take a while to get past the $60,000 mark.
