We always see a lot of income reports, even dividend income reports, from those who make a lot of money. My portfolio is considered small and my dividend income is too, so I thought it would be fun to start a monthly – or, let’s be more realistic, because ADHD… quarterly – report that shows exactly how much money I’m making from dividends my.
When I first started investing, I got into individual stocks instead of ETFs, which was the best and worst thing I could have done. The best, because many have *amazing* returns. Worse, because I really should have focused on diversifying with ETFs instead of getting caught up in the excitement of the ups and downs of individual stocks.
Moving on after the first year of investing, I decided to invest exclusively in ETFs so I could stop having so many highs and lows and just clear things out. The ETFs I’m investing in now are high-yielding dividends.
Dividends are completely passive income. This goes along with everything I teach here at Passive Income Pathways. If you are looking for other passive income ideas, be sure to take a look around.
Note: This is for informational purposes ONLY. I am NOT a numbers person, not at all. Also, I’m not even close to being an expert on stocks or investments. My goal in sharing these numbers is to show that even if you have no idea (*waves*), you can make money and invest safely.
This is not financial or investment advice (or anything else I should say so you don’t get sued if you go all in on a random stock and lose your shirt). The links in this affiliate post are my referral links, which means I earn shares or credits when you sign up and meet the platform requirements.
It’s January 2, 2024 and I just logged in to calculate the dividends I’ve earned on my portfolio stock. It’s the first time I’ve sat down and added it all up. They’re automatically reinvested, because if they weren’t, I’d spend it all. 😉
Here is a screenshot of my portfolio. If you want to see exactly which stocks I’m investing in, just let me know and I’ll add them to future posts!
4th quarter 2023 dividend earnings
Smart Portfolio Dividends: $42.15
Regular portfolio dividends: $50.47
Referral credits: $20
TSLA stock: $20
Total: $132.62
Total without referral credits: $92.62
Total investment: $18,896.42
Investment of Resources
In the coming months, I’ll be adding my favorite Learn How to Invest resources, including YouTube channels, books, and more.
I first started watching Chris Sain on YouTube but he quickly got too over my head with stances and positions and picks and and and… he also got more into day trading and I I have not he won’t find time for that.
I also learned from Andre Jikh, but while he’s a lot of fun to watch, he’s also very clickable and talks about things other than straight investment advice. I don’t really watch videos for fun, so I stopped following him after about a year – while still using the basics I learned from both him and Chris Sain going forward.
As I said above, if you want to know exactly where the dividends come from, what stocks are the best performers for me, etc., just leave a comment so I know to include them next time.
