Creating multiple streams of income and generating passive income is something that many of my clients and I strive to achieve in our business.
Building a freedom business means exploring new ways to stack income and being creative with how I trade my time for money
So today I want to dive into creating your online course so you can add another stream of passive income to your business.
The great thing about courses is that they are a unique and comprehensive offering. So while course creation initially takes time and energy, you can then sell your course on autopilot to supplement your income and live a life of more freedom.
Of course, this is something I cover IN-DEPTH within Freedom Course Creator, my signature online course that allows you to take your existing skills and turn them into a profitable course that creates more impact and income.
But today I’m going to cover the basics of creating online courses to get you started creating your first online course.
Let’s take a look.
Step One: Online Course Conceptualization
First things first, is your idea course; what is your path
If you are a Coach or Online Service Provider, think about the questions/topics that come up all the time from your clients.
From here, you can start thinking about a key topic/course topic that your audience will be willing to buy and is in high demand. It should solve a common and specific problem and provide a specific transformation for your ideal customers.
My transformation for Freedom Course Creator, for example, is straightforward. gives you everything you need to create, launch and sell a profitable online course using skills you already have.
And there is a huge demand for it. E-learning is worth billions of dollars.
When thinking of a course idea, be sure to look outside of your existing audience.
Think about what people search for on search engines. You can use sites like Answer the Public to see what the most common questions people ask in your position are.
Also, check out the questions people are asking on high-profile social media accounts. it’s a great place to do passive market research – I personally do it on TikTok.
Spend a decent amount of time on this step. Be creative and curious and make sure all your findings lead to the creation of an epic lesson plan. This will help you stay on track as you build the course.
Step Two: Develop a customer transformation/framework
Once you have your lesson concept/idea and an outline of what it will look like, it’s time to think about the unique context for your lesson.
People love to travel when they invest with you and want to know exactly what they will get from working with you.
If you feel like you don’t already have a frame, don’t worry because you probably do. You just haven’t realized it.
Your framework is essentially the process that all of your customers go through when working with you on a particular offer.
For example, in Freedom Course Creator my framework is a 3-step process that essentially covers conceptualizing your online course, creating the course (while cultivating your audience), and finally the conversion stage. starting your path and infusing buyer psychology into your marketing to encourage signups.
As you can see, I help my clients get the most out of the course creation process by combining their marketing/launch strategies.
Take some time to think about all the clients you’ve helped and map out what your framework might look like. If you can create a visual representation of it and name it as well, then it will attract your audience even more.
Step Three: Choose the right course platform
Once you’ve researched and outlined your online course, are clear about the transformation, and are ready to start building it, it’s time to think about the platform you want to host it on.
There are so many good course creation platforms out there. Finding the best course platform for you depends on things like budget, how you want your modules to be delivered (some course platforms allow content to be drip-fed which avoids overload), and what will give your students the best powerful learning experience.
Your first students become your biggest testimonials, so you want to make sure their experience is amazing and everything runs smoothly.
Take some time after reading this post to decide which course platform is best for your needs.
Step Four: Film your online course
Once you’ve mapped out the above, you’re ready to start shooting and share your journey with the world.
You can film using software like Zoom or Loom, or even use the current feature in Canva and record it.
As part of Freedom Course Creator, I show you exactly how to market your online course while you’re developing it, so that by the time it’s done, you’ll be ready to go into launch mode with an audience ready to buy.
