Suffering from analysis paralysis in trading?

Suffering From Analysis Paralysis In Trading?

Analysis paralysis in trading is when one is overwhelmed by the abundance of information and analysis available, leading to difficulty in making a decision.

Maybe you’re one of those people who knows exactly what you want to order at a restaurant.

You don’t have to think about it. If this is the case, then you don’t have analysis paralysis.

But if you look around, you’ll probably see someone staring at the restaurant menu for way too long.

What are they thinking?

Hmmm, steak salad?

Or chicken alfredo?

I am very hungry today.

Will a salad fill me up?

But if I get the pasta, it’s too many carbs.

They say don’t eat too much red meat.

Chicken has less fat.

Have I had my serving of vegetables today?

Maybe I should get the salad. But then what outfit should I choose?

And so on.

You can almost see the wheels turning on their heads.

Should I go far or near?

The moving averages they indicate nonsense because I see they just made a golden cross. But should it have been the cross of 50 days and 200 days?

I’m not sure if I should have used exponential moving averages.

But RSI shows overbought.

RSI overbought means many people are buying, so is it good to buy?

Or does it mean too many people are buying, so it’s time to sell?

And MACD indicates bearish.

Maybe I should change the review period on this indicator.

I will use the PSAR indicator to break the tie.

Do people even use parabolic SAR anymore?

In any case, it looks bearish. Hmm. So two bearish indicators and a bullish crossover.

But I think moving averages have more credibility.

In any case, I would give more weight to the RSI than the PSAR.

Maybe I should have used a different marker to break the tie.

Let’s try CCI. Better to check both weekly and monthly charts.

Forty minutes later, after checking even more indicators and more time frames, they haven’t decided whether to go long or short on this stock.

Traders who experience analysis paralysis often find themselves indecisive and may struggle to execute trades or take necessary market action.

This phenomenon usually occurs when a trader is exposed to an abundance of market data, technical indicators, news and various analysis tools.

Instead of making timely and informed decisions, the merchant gets caught in a cycle of overthinking and second-guessing, which can hinder their ability to act decisively.

I’m not saying it’s bad to analyze.

It should.

But you should also understand that you won’t get a 100% definitive answer to trades.

You will get conflicting signals from multiple indicators.

And you will have conflicting trends from different time frames.

Otherwise, there would be no two-sided market.

The very reason we have both buyers and sellers is that there are no clear answers. Half the people believe in buying the stock and half believe in selling the stock.

In trading, you need to be able to make decisions despite a lack of complete information or conflicting information.
