NinjaTrader & Canada – Yes for Prop Firms
It’s a frequently asked question: “How can I use NinjaTrader in Canada with Apex/Topstep/TakeProfit/(insert any support company here) since as Canadians we are not allowed to be with NinjaTrader?”
Good news for you, YES you can use NinjaTrader SOFTWARE in different support companies. The problem you are having is that you CANNOT use NinjaTrade the BROKERAGE as a Canadian. So when you google “NinjaTrader Canada” and find information that says you can’t, you need to dig a little deeper. Fortunately it’s not difficult.

NinjaTrade Brokerage (You can NOT use them in Canada)
OK, futures trading through a brokerage is quite limited in Canada compared to the US. There are only a few allowed brokerages in Canada and almost all of them do not allow NinjaTrader software. NinjaTrade brokerage is NOT allowed for Canadians.
NinjaTrader Software – You CAN use it with Prop Firms
Ok, now what most of you are probably about. Yes, you CAN use the NinjaTrader software with the various futures financing companies, also known as supporting companies.
First you need to create an account. Go here. https://account.ninjatrader.com/register – enter your email, click “register”.
You will then receive a confirmation email, click Confirm Email Address.
You will then be prompted to create a username and password for your account. I went with “canadiandreammachine” for fun while writing this article.
Click Create User.
*** THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART ****
This is where I suspect most people hang up. You do NOT click on ‘Open Account’. This takes you to the brokerage and you can’t open. Click on the link that says “blah blah blah SIMULATION ACCOUNT blah blah”. It is clearly marked in the image below, dark blue, bottom of the screen.
Enter your details. You will find Canada in the developing countries box. You can ignore the 14 day free trial part since I know the next question is “what if it takes me more than 14 days to get through!!!!”. Most of the support companies will give you a free license which will last indefinitely. All the big companies do it (Apex, Topstep, etc).
Congratulations! Now you can download NinjaTrader. Lower left corner.
DO NOT click on “Start Live Trading – Start Application”. That is to open a brokerage account. You should know by now that as a Canadian you can NOT have a NinjaTrade Brokerage account. NinjaTrader Software yes, NinjaTrade Brokerage no. I got it?
Install NinjaTrader
I’m not looking at how to set up NT and do all that, that’s a whole different topic. You now have NinjaTrader as a Canadian. Congratulations! Once you’ve downloaded and set it up, get your license key from your favorite support company and enter it into the software, and you’re off and running. PS: I believe now that you’re logging into NT it’s the license key, probably under Additional Options. In all fairness, the mines have been around for years and I haven’t had to import a new one.
