I love that it’s so easy to become an affiliate for a product or service you love. It’s a great way to get paid for the suggestions you make as part of your business and add a little extra to your bottom line. I also find it helps to inspire new content. A winner on all fronts, I’m sure you’ll agree.
So to help you further in your affiliate marketing adventures, here are the answers to your real life questions and just on this topic…

Can someone be a partner for any company?
Usually yes. Since the company has a program, they are very cool about who participates. They might want you to have a website or a certain number of social media followers, but that’s pretty rare.
How do you become a partner?
Google is your best friend for this. Just type in the brand you want to represent followed by “affiliate program” or “affiliate program.” Alternatively, use a platform (details below) and find suitable brands there.
What is your favorite affiliate platform?
Awin.com is my favorite platform for finding brands to represent in your affiliate marketing. there is a lot to go! When you sign up you’ll be charged £5 to make sure you’re not a spammy pam, but you’ll get it back in your affiliate payments. (this is an affiliate link btw – practicing what I preach!) Be sure to register and fill out the forms as a Publisher!
Do I need to have a strong following for affiliate marketing to be profitable?
You don’t need a huge audience no, but you do need at least a few people interested in your recommendations.
My suggestion would be to consider this as part of a longer term strategy so you can embed your links in evergreen content (videos, blogs, etc.) now and benefit as your audience grows. Much better than going back to edit everything and add links later!
I am a photographer so… I work with amazon on the products I use…. i.e. hard drives, cameras, lenses, tripods?? Then do the blogs? Video; With the link???
This sounds like a plan, but only if your content is about teaching people how to take good photos. If it’s not, then you’re not making the right recommendations.
Your partnerships should be the natural next step for your customer. Think carefully about who you associate with, too. Make sure you like/love the products or services you’re promoting so you can speak passionately and authentically about them.
When it comes to your marketing process, blogging, videos, social media posts, email, and an online store are all great places to put your affiliate links.
